I've always believed that those who work tirelessly to feed the nation deserve a fair price for their efforts. That's why I'm backing the Food Supply Chain Fairness Bill, which aims to strengthen the rights of farmers and food producers across the UK.
This Bill isn't just about protecting our local farmers — it's about ensuring a fairer food system for everyone. By giving the Groceries Code Adjudicator more power, promoting local procurement, and enhancing food labelling standards, we can create a fairer, more transparent food supply chain.
Supermarkets have held too much power for too long, squeezing profits out of those at the start of the supply chain. Our farmers need a stronger voice, and I believe this Bill is a crucial step in achieving that. If we want vibrant rural communities and resilient food production, we must act now.
I'm calling on the Government to engage with this Bill constructively and deliver the change our rural communities deserve.
