Another Win for the Lib Dems

I’m absolutely delighted to see both Tom McCann and Mark Thomas elected as new Liberal Democrat councillors for Thatcham North East. It was a real honour to represent this community, and I couldn’t be more pleased to see it remain in trusted Lib Dem hands.
Their victories in yesterday’s by-election are a clear vote of confidence in the work Liberal Democrats are doing across Thatcham and West Berkshire. I know Tom and Mark will be tireless, thoughtful voices for residents—something they’ve already demonstrated through their hard work on local issues. They are both committed, approachable, and focused on the things that matter most—protecting local services, standing up for families during the cost-of-living crisis, and safeguarding our green spaces.
During the campaign, I really valued the opportunity to knock on doors and speak to residents directly. Listening to what matters most to people in Thatcham—whether it’s housing, local transport, or access to GP appointments—was a powerful reminder of why strong local representation is so important.
It’s fantastic to see our local team growing, with more people stepping up to make a real difference in their communities. Liberal Democrat values—fairness, community, and getting things done for local people—are very much alive and well.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in this by-election—not just those who voted, but also the candidates, campaigners, and volunteers who gave their time and energy. Elections can be hard-fought, but they’re a vital part of our democracy, and it’s always encouraging to see so many people engaged in local issues.
Congratulations again to Tom and Mark—I look forward to seeing all that you’ll achieve in the months and years ahead.
