Housing

Housing isn’t just an area of policy; it’s an issue that impacts every aspect of our lives—from economic stability to community wellbeing. As someone with over two decades of experience in local government and 14 years managing social housing, I’ve seen first-hand the significant barriers people face in finding affordable, secure, and quality homes. This understanding is precisely why I’m deeply committed to addressing the housing challenges affecting Newbury and why I recently joined the Housing, Communities, and Local Government All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG). Through this role, I’m working alongside colleagues from across the political spectrum to push for real, tangible reforms that can ease the housing pressures in Newbury and nationally.

Addressing Newbury’s Housing Challenges

Lee Dillon speaking in Parliament

One of my primary goals in Parliament is to advocate for policies that create more affordable housing options, improve conditions in the rental sector, and support the right kind of development that respects the needs of our existing communities. I know we need solutions that don’t just increase housing stock but also focus on affordability, sustainability, and liveability. This means urging for reforms that make homeownership attainable for first-time buyers, while also ensuring renters have fairer protections. Additionally, as housing concerns continue to grow, it’s essential that local authorities have the tools and funding they need to meet demand and enforce standards effectively. From ensuring new developments are designed thoughtfully and sustainably to supporting those who need more accessible and adaptable homes, I am dedicated to creating a Newbury where everyone can find a home that suits their needs.
